Changing the Global visibility settings for an absence type

For: System administrators. Requires 'Absence Setup' role.

Overview
This guide explains how to control which absence types (e.g., sickness) are visible to all staff at the organisational level, allowing you to hide sensitive categories across your company.

How It Works
Global settings determine the baseline visibility rules for all users. When you restrict an absence type here (e.g., hiding "Mental Health Leave"), it will be hidden from everyone unless specifically overridden in template or individual user settings.

Setup Instructions

  1. Go to Admin Tools > Admin Panel > Global > Absence Types
  2. Find the absence type (use the search box if needed)
  3. Select Edit next to the relevant category
  4. Scroll to Permissions
  5. Adjust settings:
    • Toggle "Visible to Employees" on/off
    • Configure other access options as required
  6. Click Save (top right)

Additional information:

  • Terminology:
    • Global settings: Apply to all staff by default
    • Viewing Permissions: Determines who can see and select each absence type
  • Access: 'Absence Setup' permissions needed
  • Good practice: Use templates for department-specific exceptions
  • Important: Template/user settings override these global rules
  • Handy tip: The (i) icons explain what each permission does
